Feng Shui

We have overlaid , drawing upon drawing, the geometries , the geomancy and the energetics. These are all coordinating continuity and coherence. It is now time to look at the interior environment. Much of this initial work is a broad overview at this stage to then narrow and focus as the design of the space begins to take shape.

What is Feng Shui ?

Literally translated it means wind and water. It is a Chinese practice that has been established for at least 3000 years. It is a system of arranging our surroundings so that we can live in harmony with them. Where to build a wall, which direction things should face, how to decorate the space, how to arrange the furniture of the space, and how each part of the space is used; which is also referred to in western culture as, space planning , in the realms of Interior Design.

Lana Whittington, is Dakini's expert in Interior Design, the subtle energy involved in the positing of the built form within the space, the layout and use of the rooms, the colour and decoration.

Some of the initial space planning sketches rose out of the our Fung Shui studies that have been completed so far.

There are so many layers to this energetic awareness that need to be addressed and readdressed as the process of designing the space evolves. Take a look at the initial findings and the Intuitive sketches below .

Energy Awareness

Ariel Spilsbury is Dakini's expert in Energetic Spiritual Awareness.

"She is a planetary priestess. Her passion is participating in the conscious evolution of the planet and its inhabitants"

Ariel's initial findings were above all, positive. The subtle energies of this space , past and present have had no negative impact on the space and site and it felt clean and clear to proceed.

Ariel continues to tap into Divine energy to support a cohesive design process and works with all parties on the project to support their consciousness as it is evolving and clearing to expand and open.

More on Ariel later...

Geomancy findings

Maxim Haim is Dakini's spiritual ecologist or geomancer.
Having grown up near Stonehenge in a small English village he has both a learned and a very natural ability to read and interpret sites. It was an amazing to observe the sites natural inbuilt energies being identified and unfolding

What did he find ??

He identified a dragon line as specified in the related drawing.
(expert only. full drawings will be available when the centre opens)

The importance of this will be the interconnectedness to the other principles outlined and will be considered when designing the new form.

With further research it was found that this dragon line extends from a south point of Antarctica up and out via the mountains of Victoria and extends directly through Ularu. This building is sutuated on a very powerful line indeed.

He identified a natural water line which intersects this dragon line. It is the flow of this water line that needs to take into account the flow of water, in and out of the site.

What is Geomancy?

Geomancy explores the realm where human consciousness meets and dialogues with the Spirit of the Earth. It empowers the harmonious interaction between person and place. Through the art of appropriate placement of both secular and spiritual structures, places where we pray, work and play, geomancers locate and shape spaces in harmony with both the physical and the spiritual environment of the place. It honours the relationship between human consciousness and the Spirit of Place. Geomancers are thus spiritual ecologists.

With sacred space, you might find a geomancer dowsing to locate the proper spot for a sacred site, then looking for astronomical connections, then designing the shape of the space. Each part of the structure is located so that whatever will be going on at that spot will be enhanced by the earth energies that are there, which can be found by dowsing.

Ley lines, also known as "leys" and "dragon lines" are phenomena most people have heard of but few really understand.

Ley/Li/Lei : "The supposed straight line of a prehistoric track usually between hilltops" (Concise Oxford Dictionary)

This is the general and most widely accepted description of a ley line, but what, then, do they have to do?

"[Ley lines are] alignments and patterns of powerful, invisible earth energy said to connect various sacred sites, such as churches, temples, stone circles, megaliths, holy wells, burial sites, and other locations of spiritual or magical importance".

How are ley lines found?

Geomancy is considered to play a strong part in the location of Leys.

The science of geomancy demands that structures be placed within the landscape according to certain magical formulas that included the laws of mathematics and music and used in such a way as to provide a harmonic setting for the monument. The general belief is that prehistoric man was aware of these cosmic lines under the Earth and sought to build his sacred structures along them in order to tap into their magical properties. Major prehistoric structures of higher importance can frequently be found to occupy locations where two or more leys intersect with each other.

Why is this important for the MooneePonds MindBody Health Centre?

The Meditation Area

THE MEDITATION AREA BASED ON THE ORIGINAL ARCHITECTURE

During the initial site visit a phenomenon of mystic columns became evident. Standing at a particular point on the existing stage through the camera lens we viewed three columns; a central large and two narrow columns on either side of this.

When observing the existing architecture, and in particular the corner stone positions of the front part of the building, the equilateral triangular shape evolved from certain alignment of stone points. Then when we overlaid the Vesica Pisces taken from the corner points of the existing building structure, we observed an exact alignment of the equilateral triangle and the intersecting triangle, to create a six pointed star pattern in 2D and the Arc pattern when imagined in 3D.

This geometry symbolically represents the energy point of consciousness and the heart centre of the pattern contained in all beings.

Meditation, when practiced regularly can bring about enormous healing and personal spiritual development. It seems the essence of the space is somehow already exuding this healing energy by the placement of points in space. This will be a big consideration in further design development.

Flower of Life

The Flower of Life is a geometrical figure composed of multiple evenly-spaced, overlapping circles that are arranged so that they form a flower-like pattern with six fold symmetry like a hexagon. The center of each circle is on the circumference of six surrounding circles of the same diameter.

The Flower of Life symbol is over six thousand years old. Throughout human history, philosophers, artists, and architects around the world have known the Flower of Life for its perfect form, proportion, and harmony. It is considered to be a symbol of sacred geometry, said to contain ancient, religious value depicting the fundamental forms of space and time.

The flower of life in the context of the healing centre should provide a guide to the resulting new forms and to the division of space to subtly embody this underling pattern information.

The Flower of Life overlay to the existing architecture reveals the touch points of the overlapping circles, revealing energy 'hotpots' and positions for naturally occurring flow of consciousness , inward and outward.

All consciousness is based upon sacred geometry, the flower of life symbol represents this form in 2 dimensions on paper , but it is really 3 and 4 and 5 dimensional and is the basis of how vibration, sound, harmonics, music, and matter are interrelated.

The beginning of all other geometrical forms is the Vesica Pisces; two circles interlocking at precise points.

"
Symbolically two is a portal between Unity and the rest of all the numbers and geometries. The vesica shape is called "Ru" or Rus" in Egyptian hieroglyphics, which meant sacred door of light , gate or mouth . The vesica is thus a symbol for the sacred opening to the inner sanctum of the female temple ...the rose gold mandorla gateway to the Mysteries of the Temple of the Open Heart." (p.106; expert from The 13 Moon Oracle by Ariel Spilsbury)

It became evident which way the orientation of the opening or entrance for the centre should become.

It was also interesting that the cross points of the flowers naturally became points for the mediation area at the front, the centre or heart of the healing space which is the waiting area , and the void space between practitioners and the yoga/seminar room at the back. Again the points between the joins became openings , passage ways , doorways and flow for energy .

Note; sketch is an expert only; we will have full drawings available when the centre opens in 2009

The Fibonacci Series Sketch Overlay

Having located the corner points, then mathematically defining the spiral, next we look at the fibonacci series, or the five pointed star.

As with this sketch it can seen that the self similar growth of the star occurs equally in all directions. The lines of the star divide themselves equally into segments according to the Divine Proportion: Phi 1.618...

The five pointed star, or pentagram; represents the five elemental energies.

It is important to look at the cross points of energy and again the radiating spiral growth of this form in relationship to the healing centre, layout, space planning and design.

Spiral Sketch Overlay

When we located the corner stone points and defined the rectangle math to apply the division according to the golden mean ratio; the division of 1.6... by the longest side, the spiral which results from this, appeared.

The most important thing to note from this was its location.

This inward spiral activity is where a concentrated vortex of energy radiates. This does not mean that there is no positive or negative energy activity elsewhere but it is an important location to influence space planning and the radial energy flow through out the centre.

During our initial site visit we were naturally drawn to flowing through the centre in a particular way and found ourselves all precisely at this point.

The spiral is of absolute significance to the centre as it represents the natural growth of all living organisms. It is infinite, inward and outward growth, development and a natural symbol of wholistic health; thus it has become the new logo symbol for the centre.

Corner Stone Points Sketch Overlay

These corner stone points of the existing architecture define the overall rectangle mathematics to begin researching the sacred geometry.

Opening the existing floorplate to expose these major structural points reveals the geometry of the architecture inherent in the site itself.

It is points like those pictured here that all sacred buildings come down to. It would be good to look at some examples of ancient architecture and sacred space to draw some comparisons, perhaps in future blogs.

Note; sketches are experts only, not full representation

Existing Site Sketch Overlay

This sketch shows an exert from the initial existing architecture.

This site was originally a school next to the church, a classic architectural example of 1890's design. The front section is the original building with a back section having been added later on.

One of the keys to cohesive design going forward form here is to ensure the whole building links energetically and architecturally.

Energy Space Awareness Sketch Overlay

EXISTING HEALING CENTRE OVERVIEW AND PROJECT DESIGN BRIEF

Moonee Ponds Mind Body Health Centre
Client; Dr Anne Small

Overall aim;

To design a healing centre in accordance with the natural laws of Sacred Geometry; including principles of Feng Shui & Geomancy, appropriate to the positioning and layout for the healing practitioners and the overall space planning; including, an overall understanding and interpretation of the energetic awareness and essence of the project from the client’s position, ie; the overarching, highest principle for completing the project.

Dakini will explore the interconnected relationships of these elements and work in conjunction with the appointed architect to ensure the resulting new architecture and design contains the embodiment of these principles, relationships and ideas.

Related themes;

To design according to the principles of Sacred Geometry, subtle energetics and to create a place where energy flows that embody's healing.

To create a centre that radiates healing energy.

To uncover the inherent position for a meditation space, to capture and embody the healing energy of the space.

To express the sacred nature of the healing space, in all elements of the design, resulting in the new architectural form.

Mind Body Health

Moonee Ponds Mind Body Health Centre at 50 Maribyrnong Rd is undergoing a transformation.

Dr Anne Small started the centre in 1996 as a sole practitioner practising a wholistic healing approach. She now works with over 10 practitioners in the areas of kinesiology , naturopathy, chinese medicine, reflexology, counselling , massage and increasingly other practitioners.

"I started the centre after I developed Chronic Fatigue Syndrome in 1991 and I couldn't work for 8 months . I was cured after 3 -4 years and my healing journey was very enlightening for me . It confirmed that western medicine treats the disease and not the patient and it opened my mind to many different forms of therapies. I now realise that healing needs to address emotional, psychological, physical and spiritual issues and so I set up the health centre to reflect this." Dr Anne Small

So now the centre itself must also reflect this wholistic approach to healing , and embody principles of Sacred Geometry, energetic awareness or Feng Shui principles, and space planning techniques which will naturally compliment the practitioners work.

Join us on a journey of discovery for the new Moonee Ponds Health centre as it gradually evolves from the existing site to a wholistic healing centre inside and out.
